Two accountants who built a business here too
Aprotax is Alex and Anca Prodan. Accountants, married to each other, based in Bristol. We started the practice in 2019 and we still answer our own phone.
Why we started it
We came to the UK from Romania and, like most people, worked for someone else before setting up on our own. So we've done all of it personally: HMRC forms in a second language, letters that assume you already know the system, advice we paid for without ever being sure whose side it was on.
What stayed with us was how normal everyone found this. People just accepted not understanding their own accounts. They accepted surprise invoices for phone calls. They accepted feeling stupid for asking.
We built Aprotax to be the opposite of that, in both languages.Alex and Anca Prodan
Who you'll actually speak to
Alex Prodan
Director
Alex looks after the client relationships, the tax planning and the trickier compliance work. He spends most of his time with the transport and construction clients, and he's usually the one who picks up the phone.
Anca Prodan
Director
Anca runs the engine room: VAT, review work, quality control. Nothing leaves for HMRC without her having looked at it, which is exactly how clients like it.

Four things we hold ourselves to
We quote before we work
The price goes in writing before the work starts. If the work grows later, the new price gets agreed with you first.
We explain it properly
If you don't understand your own accounts, we haven't finished the job. Questions are part of the fee, in whichever language they come.
We say no to our own products
If incorporating would cost you more than it saves, you'll hear it from us first, even though the company package earns us more.
Your data stays yours
Software licences are registered in your name. If you ever leave, everything goes with you, and the handover is ours to make easy.
